Park City • School officials in are considering drug testing students who participate in extracurricular activities as police investigate whether two 13-year-old boys died after taking a new synthetic drug.

KUTV reports that the Park City Board of Education is discussing what a drug testing policy might look like and how to pay for it ahead of the 2017-2018 school year.

Education board president Tania Knauer says the deaths of the two teens were a wake-up call for board members.

Police say they're waiting for toxicology results to confirm what killed Grant Seaver and Ryan Ainsworth last month.

Investigators are looking at whether the deaths are connected to U-47700, a new synthetic drug that's nearly eight times stronger than morphine and has been connected with at least 50 deaths nationwide.

Police say the boys had discussed the drug online.
